Well, here we are! Another year. And in Chicagoland, we’re braving our first significant snow of the season and the frigid temps to go with it.
I’m having a sluggish start to 2022. A bit of a weeks-long hangover from the stress of a more-normal-but-still-abnormal holiday season. This is the time of year when even the most blinding of sunny days can’t make up for the overwhelming (and early) darkness, with moods to match.
I’m slowly working my way through boxes of slides from grandpa’s trip to Japan; the second issue of that series will be out this month. And January’s Arboretum Through the Seasons: Then and Now is essentially ready to go, but I’ve been stonewalled in trying to get the last few photos I need by the freezing temperatures, which make it impossible to trek outside for very long.
The next post to come out will almost certainly be the long-teased but late-delivered exploration of the Arboretum’s ties with the Chicago Tribune over my grandpa’s career. This topic has been a perfect example of seeing too many interesting threads to follow and trying to edit down to only what is most relevant and exciting (editing for content, like brevity, is not my strong suit.)
As always, thank you all for reading and for your patience with my…let’s just call it “haphazard” posting schedule. Getting back into routine makes an enormous difference; volunteering again today at the Sterling Morton library certainly helped me grab the reigns back from the wild thrashing vibe of the holiday. I’m looking forward to what this year will hold and to bringing you more Remarkable Trees in the coming months!
